HOTEL AMORE Guide: Part II Big Black Book Athens Culture, Galleries & Shopping
I just want to go back now, having reminded myself of the amazing places in this buzzing city
Hi my dear internet friends!
How are you? I hope your week is going great. I am very excited to share part II with you with recommendations for culture, galleries and shopping for the wonderful city of Athens. If you haven’t read part I, here it is!
Like for Part I, I sought additional advice from my two friends:
We have Eva Kagkelari, an Italian-Greek lawyer who founded some great places you might know: Lefkasa, Casa Condriada, Bar Milano and Fresko.de. Eva lives between Milan, Athens and Berlin and has fantastic taste.
Eva Urbann, Executive Director of Berlin-based pr agency C. Seher. I know Eva since a couple of years and I just realised that we have done a lot of features together already (for vintage & culture). She recently spent another week in Athens, so she kindly shared her favorites for this guide with some new places <3
Shopping Fashion & Beauty
Incredible, unique archive collection of designer vintage pieces, you’ll find a lot of Gianni Versace, Gianfranco Ferré - but quite sure the imagery below suggests this already. They can also tailor inhouse, love that! Only by appointment, you can dm or call.
This is a unique and very tasteful project / concept store by the 10AM lofts owner, selling basic products such as olive oil, lip balm, soaps, incense, all made in Greece. Only open Saturdays, occasional culinary collaborations, watch out on their Instagram. They belong to 10AM lofts, which were also introduced in part I of this guide as accommodation.
A beautiful antique store. I didn’t gone here yet, but it is on my list. Looks absolutely incredible.
Beautiful classic button-down shirts in different shapes and colors, owned by a father-daughter duo, produced in Athens.
Eva Urbann says “Mouki Mou is the Murkudis from Athens”, Eva Kagkelari “A nice selection of clothes and garments in the most touristic aria- but the shop is not touristic at all!”
Mouki Mou has brands such as Alexander Kirkeby, Extreme Cashmere, K.H. Würtz, Lemaire, Once Milano, Ten Thousand Things, Vogel Studio - all muted colors and more subtle style. I really love their hats and accessoires, would go for that!
This is a recommendation from Eva Kagkelari “top gallery for vintage pieces”. The gallery specializes in historical design and masterpieces of the 20th century. It was founded in 1954 by Yiannis and Aliki Yannoukou and has over the years become one of the most prestigious antique stores in Athens -
Beautifully embroidered linen pieces for kitchen, bath and more, I didn’t go, but found it on the internet and it looks fantastique!
Secret tip! Says Eva Urbann. They have some great things such as the Dior bag, you can also order online (and I am quite tempted), prices are really fair, their Instagram doesn’t look great, but this is often a great signal for a great vintage store. This place is definitely on my list for next time.
