Initially, this was intended to be an edition focused solely on ceramics—a follow-up to my glassware edition (please see below). I began this feature showcasing ceramics exclusively, but as I discovered numerous exquisite objects that extended beyond ceramics, this category has now expanded slightly.

The aim of the features in this newsletter is to showcase niche and lesser-known brands, offering aesthetics that aren't ubiquitous. Of course, everything shared here falls within my personal taste universe, so these aesthetics are undoubtedly part of my visual world. but whatever you see here has been curated by me, and not by a mathematical code (obviously ha). I'm weary of algorithms wielding the power to shape what people perceive being taste and culture. The prevalence of similar aesthetics globally is a result of being inundated with the same content repeatedly. Today, taste is often influenced by machine-guided curation, leading to a homogenization of preferences because people are only exposed to a limited range of options. Maybe you know this book Filterworld: How Algorithms Flattened Culture by Kyle Chayka - it talks about just that. After dedicating a good six hours to research for this newsletter, I've curated a selection of pieces by talented artists, some beautiful small niche brands and some eBay & Etsy finds. Enjoy my friends!

Natalia Criado, Milan
Originally from Colombia, Natalia established her eponymous brand in Milan in 2011. She seamlessly blends Colombian and Italian influences, fostering collaborations with artisans from both cultures to produce contemporary designs that draw inspiration from pre-Columbian heritage while honoring traditional craftsmanship. Her innovative approach involves the fusion of diverse materials such as brass, glass, gemstones, and ceramic - a very unique combination that is quite unseen. The prices of her creations range between 135€ and 700€.

Gaetano Pesce
The visionary and incredible Italian design icon Gaetano Pesce sadly passed away this year at the age of 84 years. He was one of the great artists of our time. He was famous for his constant drive towards innovation - and his works are famous: His chairs Big Mama and Up are two of his most famous designs, in the past years he gained a new power and worked on a lot of different projects (Bottega Veneta chairs - I was so in love, I emailed the team at Pesce). I also love his vases made of silicon, by his company Fish Design. They are quite affordable, you can buy them at prices starting from 390€ up to very high prices (if you buy at 1st dibs for example :))

Here are some of the beautiful items that the Pesce team sent to me in a pdf - all these pieces are just incredible. I don’t know what will still be available, as this pdf is from December 2022.
